Future Garden Watering System

Do you think this garden watering system will be available in the future ? This is just a concept, but from the description, I’m pretty sure it will come in handy when available. Cute design like a little insect hanging around in our garden, well … looking forward for it in the future.

Ceramix for Mix

Spoons are so last year. Who has time to find a clean one, lift your hand, swirl your wrist to mix in sugar with your tea or coffee, tap the spoon dry or lick it and then place it back on the plate? I mean really, are we animals!? No, most of us are not. So that is why Florian Dussopt, Jérémie Reneau & Julie Girard got together and created the “Ceramix For Mix” saucer and cup design. All sarcasm aside, this is a elegant and simple design. Incorporating a molded glass groove (resembling a roulette wheel) that acts as a track for a ceramic ball as well as keep you from choking to death on it, the user is inclined to swirl the cup using centrifugal force to mix your beverage. I applaud the design and am still pondering its need over my premixed vanilla latte.

Ford: Speed of Design

Even today, they still work with full-scale models sculptured in clay.

However, the carving and shaping process is now carried out at the speed of light by a highly computerized, purpose built machine which can not only create a full-size clay vehicle in a matter of hours, it can also perform this with a precision that was previously unheard of.

Of course, before any design evolves to that stage, it has to have been thought up, drawn out, and decided upon.

This is perhaps where the design process has changed the most in recent years.

Yes, Ford’s design teams still draw out their ideas.

However, the stylus has now largely replaced the pen, and paper has taken a back seat to the computer screen.

Yes, the design department at Ford has become seriously high-tech, in fact, so high-tech that it is now within their capabilities to completely design a vehicle, view it full scale on a gigantic monitor, and then take that vehicle for a quick test-drive before it is even assembled.

Morph Nokia Phone Concept

Morph, a joint nanotechnology concept, developed by Nokia Research Center (NRC) and the University of Cambridge (UK) - was launched today alongside the "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibition, on view from February 24 to May 12, 2008, at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Morph features in both the exhibition catalog and on MoMA’s official website.

Morph is a concept that demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes. It demonstrates the ultimate functionality that nanotechnology might be capable of delivering: flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces.

Stylish Flash Memory Card Holder

We all know there are way too many flash memory card formats out there. At last I count I believe there are at least 9 of them. Normally I try to stick with SD or Micro SD cards but sometimes that’s not possible so what’s one to do when transporting all those easily lost cards? Get a memory card holder.

Designer Tom Kenworthy envisages a sustainable 3 tier sliding holder made from recycled vending cups. It only takes 7 plastic cups to make one holder. It’s lightweight, small, and can be colored to your heart’s desire. You might not need to carry your memory cards everywhere but at the very least this is a great way to keep them all in one place.

E-paper interactive map with GPS

Before you get all excited: There’s no such gadget. This is a concept device. The images are artists’ rendering. Now that we’ve convinced you to not email us about where to purchase this, let’s talk about Traveller. Traveller was designed by Nikita Golovlev, an industrial design student in the UK. The idea is a satellite navigation “book” coupled with an e-paper to replace a tourist map. Since concept devices have no limits, Nikita also threw in memory card reader, USB port, Wi-Fi, bluetooth, ability to sync your pics with the location they were taken, and open source platform to allow for other applications to be used.

World’s Greenest Building Going Up In Paris - Energy Plus

The home of the Eiffel Tower is getting a new architectural innovation- and a green one at that. The Energy Plus office building, to be located outside of Paris, is designed to consume no electricity other than that which it creates itself. This zero-energy building, according to the designers, will be the greenest office building ever created.

The 70,000 square meter building is designed by architecture uberfirm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, who have also designed the Guandong Green Skyscraper and a proposed green skyscraper in San Francisco. The low-rise building will be located in the Gennevilliers area of Paris, near the Seine river. It is designed to house around 5,000 occupants.

How does this building achieve its goal? For starters, the building will be heavily insulated - enough to reduce its energy use to about 16 kilowatts per square meter, which is considerably lower than that of a standard building. Cold water from the Seine river will be pumped throughout the offices eliminating the need for a standard air conditioner unit. And to actively contribute to the highest standard of energy efficiency, designers have engineered the building to have the largest solar array in the world installed in the roof. It is this solar array which will provide all the energy needs of the building, as well as providing additional energy to be fed back into the grid.

Despite its energy payments over the long term, initial construction of the Energy Plus Building will not come cheap. The building is expected to cost anywhere from 25% to 30% more than standard office blocks. Still, if one considers the future savings and lower maintenance costs, the building might come out being one of the best investments that this developer has ever done.

Prototype Of Universal Toilet Made

The Universal Toilet is a flexible toilet design useable by both individuals with disabilities and the general population that removes the social stigma of handicapped facilities. For users with disabilities, even a dedicated handicapped toilet requires maneuvering, especially when in a wheelchair. With the Universal Toilet users don’t need to turn or twist but can simply slide forward off the wheelchair directly onto the toilet.

Crazy Color-Changing Calender, Poster and Wallpaper

Usually color-changing products are associated with children - books and toys that work as novelty items. But is that the limit of their applicability? Or can they be used for much more interesting things, like light or touch sensitive wallpaper, posters or calenders. These curious designs turn otherwise inanimate objects into interactive design elements.
